John Abboud – President
John Abboud has been a resident of Broomfield since 2002. He retired in 1998 after 30 years of service as Chief Operating Officer for a mid-sized company in the oil & gas industry. Since retiring, Abboud has been doing some consulting work on a part-time basis through his own company Abboud & Associates. During his career in the oil and gas industry, Abboud has had the opportunity to work with many fire districts throughout the western United States and brings his experience to the North Metro Fire board. He and his wife Marian have three children and ten grandchildren.
Robert Nielsen – Vice President
Robert Nielsen has been a Broomfield resident for over a decade. With close to 45 years of experience working with the fire service, Nielsen’s career began in the U.S. Air Force in 1961. He spent approximately 28 years with the Oak Brook Fire Department in Illinois, rising through the ranks and retiring as fire chief in 1997. He then spent another eight years with the Westmont, IL Fire Department, as their accreditation manager. In 2009, he was awarded the status of fire chief emeritus by the Illinois Fire Chiefs Association. He was also the former chairman of the Lemont Fire Protection District Fire Commission, also in Illinois, where he served two terms. He has been a presenter at both the state and national level on the subjects of management, certification, and code enforcement along with having over 25 articles published on these topics, in recognized fire service trade journals. Nielsen has raised two children with his wife Jackie and has served on the North Metro Fire Board since May 2010.
Tim Long – Treasurer
Tim Long has been a Northglenn resident since 1999 and was elected to serve on the board of directors in May 2012. Having previously served as a Northglenn Urban Renewal Authority Commissioner for seven years, Long enjoys providing support to District activities. He has spent most of his professional career working in and around hospitals, physicians and healthcare administration, planning and development – both in the Denver metro area as well as internationally. Tim and his wife Donna have six children between them and two granddaughters – in varying pursuits, all carry a passion for the great outdoors.
Jenni Murphy – Secretary
Jenni Murphy joined the board of directors in May 2012 and has been a resident of Northglenn for over 30 years. She has had the opportunity to work for the City of Northglenn for several years. She started in the city’s Finance and Sales Tax Departments and now serves as the city’s community outreach coordinator. With her various work experience and appreciation for the community, Jenni brings a wide range of skills to the District. Jenni and her husband Jerry have three grown children and two granddaughters.
Dennis Day – Assistant Secretary
Dennis Day returned as a board member in 2014, having served previously from 2008 to 2012 as the board’s treasurer. He spent 35 years working for North Metro Fire before retiring in 2007, and 20 of those years were spent as deputy fire chief. Day’s longstanding role in North Metro Fire is reflected in the District’s Training Center, which carries his name. Day lived in Northglenn before relocating to Broomfield in 1994. He is an avid golfer, gardener, and enjoys spending time with his family.
